2015 Grants Announced

CDF is pleased to announce their 2015 grant awards to the following recipients:

Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Our grant will fund a Panda Warmer for Vassar Brother’s Labor and Delivery Department. Vassar Brothers delivers over 2,200 babies annually and all newborns are placed in Panda Warmers. An estimated 10% of newborns will require some assistance to begin breathing at birth which can be provided by the Panda Warmer.

Greenburgh Health Center in Greenburgh, NY. CDF provided funds for the purchase of a van in conjunction with Greenburgh’s Pediatric Well Baby Pilot Program (started by a CDF grant in 2014) which aims to start newborns on the road to good health. The van will be used to transport patients for specialized services as well as to and from their homes.

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY. CDF gave a grant to Maria Fareri to help teach parents and children in the proper use of child seats and bicycle helmets. Proper car seat use reduces the risk of death to infants under 1 year by 71%, while proper bicycle helmet usage greatly reduces the likelihood of Traumatic Brain Injury. 1,400 bicycle helmets were given to income appropriate families as part of the initiative.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Our grant will fund the purchase of a newborn simulation manikin called SimNewB. This wireless, portable “newborn” is designed to meet the training requirements of neonatal emergency medicine and resuscitation courses. Caregivers throughout the area will have the chance to train at Phelp’s Hoch Center for Emergency Education.
