In the past, the CDF has provided resources to:

Grant: $20,000 to Richmond Children’s Foundation, Respiratory therapy system Purchase of a hospital grade compressor and associated equipment.

Grant: $45,000 to Putnam Hospital; Pediatric Emergency Room.  Area is geared towards being kid friendly: kid’s wallpaper, furniture, entertainment. This area is important, as 25% of their ER visits are children.

Grant: $50,000 to Gilda’s Club Westchester for "Noogieland".  The $50,000 was used to build "Noogieland" a designated playroom at Gilda’s Club Westchester where children can go and play. It is not only for children who have cancer but also for kids who are visiting the Club because of their family member’s cancer.   They do art projects, baking, or talk with a social worker. Noogieland has murals, a library, and loads of games as well. The CDF is most proud to join forces with Gilda’s club for children facing cancer, either directly or indirectly.

Grant: $34,000 to Putnam Hospital; Partners in Care Program.  The emphasis of this program was to increase awareness about asthma in Putnam County. This was accomplished in four ways:  1) Multi-learning packets were developed for the eight libraries in the County, 2) Packets geared towards children were created for the fourteen elementary and primary schools in the County, 3) A respiratory therapist conducted an education program entitled "Kids With Power Over Asthma" to educate children in grades 1 -5 and 4) A educational program "Children With Asthma:  What You Need to Know" was directed to people in the community such as soccer coaches, 4-H leaders and day care providers who interact with children.

Grant: $20,000 to Richmond Children’s Foundation.  Funds were used to build "Playscape" a therapeutic, recreational environment for children with multiple disabilities. It contains a therapeutic bike path, an adapted playground area, communication circle, and an elevated garden center.

Grant: $17,154.04 toWestchester EMS, an Affiliate of Healthstar Network.  Pediatric advanced life support equipment including 8 Broselow Bags, and 12 pediatric immobilizers.

Established the area's first video EEG "Dream Room" at Saint Agnes Hospital. This equipment enables pediatric neurologists to more quickly and accurately diagnose and treat hard-to-detect seizure disorders in children.

Provided specialized pediatric equipment for the emergency department at United Hospital, so that the physicians and nurses treating injured and sick children have a full spectrum of special child-sized equipment and supplies -- such as oxygen masks, intravenous catheters, splints, and blood pressure -- necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment of their smallest and most fragile patients.

Supported the expansion and renovation of a Newborn Nursery and Observation Area at White Plains Hospital Center. Plans call for specialized lighting to insure infant comfort, bassinets equipped with medical air, vacuum, and oxygen connections, non-reflective glass to maximize viewing areas, expanded doorways to accommodate mothers who are confined to wheelchairs or stretchers and the Children's Step for children to view their new brother, sister, or cousin.

Furnished and equipped five medical suites in the new Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation Children's Rehabilitation Center, the only comprehensive, out-patient, medical, rehabilitative and educational facility caring for children with developmental disabilities in the region. The additional medical suites, complete with the latest in diagnostic and treatment modalities, enable many more children to be evaluated and treated by the numerous pediatric specialists required for their ongoing complex medical care.

Donated computers and printers for young patients in an out-patient children's cancer center at Westchester Medical Center. While the children are receiving intravenous chemotherapy treatments and transfusions, the computers provide much-needed diversions, in addition to enabling the children to work on school assignments.

Purchase state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care equipment necessary to care for the most fragile newborns at Sound Shore Medical Center. CDF's support of the expansion of Sound Shore's Level II Neonatal Nursery will provide cardio-respiratory monitors, infant warmers, incubators, oxygen analyzers and other critically needed equipment for this new unit.

Supported the creation of the Kaplan Family Therapeutic Aquatic Center at the Carvel Foundation Children's Rehabilitation Center. This exciting new program will enable the physical and occupational therapists to provide these children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and other physical disabilities with the specialized therapies necessary for them to reach their greatest potential.

Purchased TV's and VCR's for children undergoing kidney dialysis at Westchester Medical Center. The TV's and VCR's provide important recreational opportunities for children with kidney disease who must endure these difficult treatments regularly and often extending over long periods of time.

Developed a Children's Concentrated Care Unit (CCCU) at Saint Agnes Hospital, for children needing more intensive nursing care than customarily available on the pediatric floor. This CCCU provides the appropriate environment, equipment and one-on-one nursing care for very sick children -- including the provision for parents to be with their children at all times -- all of which encourages more rapid recuperation from surgery or acute illness.

Provide major financial support for a children's cancer research fund at New York Medical College, which contributes essential resources to dedicated researchers seeking a cure for the devastating cancers plaguing our children.

Purchased special portable X-ray equipment to be used during pediatric oral surgeries at Saint Agnes Hospital and also during out-patient procedures in the pediatric dental service at the Carvel Foundation Children's Rehabilitation Center.

In addition, the CDF has produced a six-minute video, "You and Your Operation." This informative film, showing prospective pediatric patients and their parents what to expect before, during, and after surgery, has served to comfort and ease the concerns of many children and their families over the last several years.
